# Node-backed Setup

Talk with your Voltage advisor to confirm that Node-backed is the right fit for your business before you begin.

## 1. Create a production environment

Sign in to Voltage and create an environment for your organization. Name it **Production**, or choose another name that clearly identifies its purpose.

This environment will hold your production Lightning node and its wallets. These wallets handle real bitcoin.

## 2. Create your first wallet

In your production environment:

1. Create a new wallet and give it a name, such as **Payments**.
2. Select **Production**, then **Bitcoin**.
3. Select **I want to use a team infrastructure node**.
4. Choose the option to create a new node.

Voltage creates your node as part of this wallet setup.

## 3. Name and secure your node

Enter a node name, such as `your-company-node`. The name must be unique across Voltage.

Choose a strong, unique node password and confirm it. Store it securely in your company's approved password manager before continuing.

:::caution
Have the person responsible for your company's financial credentials complete this step. Voltage does not know your node password. Losing it could result in loss of funds. Anyone with the credentials needed to access your node can move or steal funds. Voltage cannot reverse those transfers.
:::

Complete the setup and wait for Voltage to provision your node. This may take a few moments. When provisioning finishes, you will have a node and one wallet backed by it.

## 4. Prepare for your first payments

### If you plan to receive payments first

Your setup is complete. Tell your Voltage advisor that your wallet is ready. The Voltage team will ensure it has the liquidity needed to start receiving payments.

### If you plan to send payments from day one

Fund your node before you start sending:

1. In the same production environment, create a second **Production Bitcoin** wallet.
2. Name it **On-chain deposits**, or choose another name that makes its purpose clear.
3. Choose the team infrastructure node option and select the node you just created.
4. Open this wallet and select **Receive**.
5. Get an on-chain Bitcoin address and send bitcoin to it from a wallet outside Voltage.
6. Tell your Voltage advisor after you send the deposit.

The Voltage team will coordinate moving these funds onto Lightning for you. This incurs on-chain fees; your advisor will explain the fees and next steps.
