# Setup

Choose the path that matches what backs your Voltage Payments wallets. Both paths use the shared Payments API and Developer Guide.

## Credit-backed

Choose Credit-backed when Voltage provides the line of credit that backs Payments wallets and your team does not operate the underlying Lightning node.

- [Credit-backed](/credit-backed)
- [Credit-backed Setup](/credit-backed-setup)

## Node-backed

Choose Node-backed when your organization controls the Lightning node and reserve beneath the Payments API. This path adds node credentials, backups, liquidity, monitoring, and treasury responsibilities.

- [Node-backed](/node-backed)
- [Node-backed Setup](/node-backed-setup)
- [Node-backed Infrastructure](/node-backed-infrastructure)

## Development wallet selection

Choose the Development wallet that matches what you are testing:

- **Mutinynet Bitcoin:** Bitcoin-backed implementations, including both Node-backed Bitcoin and Credit-backed Bitcoin.
- **Mutinynet USD:** USD line-of-credit testing. Payments move over Bitcoin or Lightning while the wallet is denominated in USD.
- **Voltage Cash:** An experimental stablecoin test wallet. It is not currently live because the intended Tether-backed asset has not yet been minted.

Use [Wallet Setup Guide](/wallet-setup-guide) and [Staging Environment](/staging-environment) for the complete selection and testing workflow.

## Shared next steps

Use the [Staging Environment](/staging-environment), [Developer Guide](/developer-guide), [Voltage Payments API](/voltage-payments-api), and [Security](/security) section after choosing your path.
